The Montreal Canadiens Alumni Tour, presented by Canadian Tire, will be coming to Peterborough to participate in a charity hockey game on Friday, November 10th against the Peterborough Quacks, a team of local Peterborough doctors. In addition, super fans can purchase a chance to share the ice with the Montreal Canadiens Alumni with spots as referees, linesmen and assistant coach with the Habs through the Foundation office at (705) 740-8074. All funds raised will continue to support the work of GPHSF, Your Family Health Team Foundation for specialized programs with the Peterborough Family Health Team, such as the Youth Sports Concussion Program, Mindfulness for Mental Health, INR Clinics and more, as well as research, capital equipment, training and continuing medical education for health care providers.

Although the full roster for the Montreal Canadiens Alumni team will be announced in September, two-time Stanley Cup winner and 50 goal scorer Stéphane Richer is expected to play. He will be joined by another 10 prominent Montreal Canadiens Alumni, from a list that could include Patrice Brisebois, Guy Lafleur, Guy Carbonneau, and many more. Local Montreal Canadiens fans, Graeme Ross and Dave Pogue, will be dawning the Habs jersey and joining the team on the ice for the special charity hockey game.“The Montreal Canadiens Alumni team is composed of some of the Habs’ most loved players over the years,” says Brian Da Silva, Montreal Canadiens Alumni. “Montreal has a rich history of affiliation with Peterborough, from the roots of the Peterborough Petes farm team in 1956, along with some of the greats of the game hailing from Peterborough. We are looking forward to confirming the final lineup in the coming weeks and are excited to take to the ice against the Peterborough Quacks to help raise funds for the great work of the Peterborough Family Health Team.”

The game will take place on Friday, November 10th at 7 pm at the Peterborough Memorial Centre, with a special reception pre-game for VIP ticket holders that includes a meet & greet with all the Montreal Canadiens Alumni players. Players on the Peterborough Quacks team include local physicians: Dr. Bill Rogers, Dr. Iain Jamieson, Dr. Gabriel Fuoco, Dr. Kirk Dillon, Dr. Deepinder Brar, Dr. Brendan Hughes, Dr. John Reesor, Dr. Scott Heidman, Dr. Mario Voros, Dr. Dale Friesen, Dr. Brenden Bechamp, Dr. Alex Weiler, Dr. Phong Nguyen Ho, Dr. Steph Dallaire, Dr. Katy Shufelt, Dr. Andrew Binette, and Dr. Rick Binette. The Quacks will be supported by a few special hockey ‘friends’ who will be announced along with the Canadiens team in the coming weeks.

About GPHSF, Your Family Health Team Foundation
Your Family Health Team Foundation supports patients in the community who rely on expert, compassionate care delivered by the Family Health Teams by raising funds for specialized programs, research, capital equipment, training and continuing medical education for health care providers. The Foundation relies on the generosity of donors and community partners to help patients at all stages in life and continues to accomplish the mission that the Sisters of St. Joseph’s set in motion more than 30 years ago, bridging gaps in community healthcare.

About the Peterborough Quacks
The Peterborough Quacks came into existence in the early 1980s, founded by local family doctor, Dr. Peter Clark. From its origins, the team has been composed of physicians who have played hockey all their lives or wished that they had. It has allowed its members to skate away periodically from the pressures of a life in medicine and to enjoy some camaraderie on the ice. The Quacks team began the Docs on Ice hockey tournament in 1983 in Peterborough, an annual charity event that helps raise funds for local causes in the hosting city. The 35th edition of the tournament was held last year in Hamilton and attracted 55 teams and over 750 doctors. The Quacks have also travelled overseas to play and have done so in the great cities of Venice, Bratislava, Paris, Barcelona, Prague, Berlin and Budapest. The Quacks currently have 35 members, divided in 2 rosters, and play weekly in the winter at the Kinsmen Centre. The talent pool on the team has its deep sections, but most of the players are stuck in the shallow end.

About the Montreal Canadiens Alumni Tour
The Montreal Canadiens Alumni team allows hockey fans of all ages to meet the players that have made hockey history. We give our fans the chance to relive the best years of hockey all across Canada. Our seasons have expanded to include the United States and Europe. We have attracted crowds of up to 19,000 spectators for a single game and we expect to bring in a minimum of 100,000 people this year and we owe this to the founder Mr. Marc Verreault who started that team 40 years ago. We play 50 to 60 games a year and last year we raised over $1,000,000 for different charitable organizations.
